Look out for our first Newsletter in January with more information on the Lead, Speed Titles and our membership renewal drive early January.

December 5th is World Volunteer Day and Sport Climbing Victoria Say, “Thankyou”

Today is “International Volunteer Day” and where would be without all the amazing volunteers we have!

Lead, Speed and Boulder Titles all take a huge amount of work from the gyms and large volunteer numbers are always required. We had the largest competition sign ups ever in 2019.

Adaptive Climbing Victoria could not have achieved such a fantastic inclusion rate without all the volunteers to help run the Come and Try day’s and not to mention the SCV board and ACV board which are run entirely by volunteers.

We put the call out and you answered. Thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout the year, we couldn’t achieve all the things we do without you. THANK YOU.

Aboriginal Cultural Values Rediscovered at Arapiles

Declaration Crag, Mt Arapiles (thecrag.com)

There has been a re-discovery of rock art at Taylor’s Rock (Declaration Crag). Barengi Gadjin Land Council shared this news with the Rock Climbing Roundtable in advance of a public statement as a positive story of celebration and a demonstration of their faith in the climbing community to do the right thing.

They respectfully ask all users of the park (not just climbers) to abide by the restrictions being put in place at the site whilst they as a community decide what they would like to do with this discovery and the site for the future. As a climbing community we feel honoured by this gesture of faith and celebrate this amazing discovery.

Sport Climbing Victoria are enthusiastic about the potential this discovery holds to increase the value of a special place where climbing & cultural heritage can co-exist.

Congratulations Barengi Gadjin Land Council.

Adaptive Climbing Training Camp

1-SCV AGM & Awards

Such a fantastic weekend with a training camp hosted by North Walls Indoor Climbing to aid the Adaptive Climbing Community.

Setter, Carlie LeBreton  was flown down by Sport Climbing Australia and together with Victorian setter, Anaya Brain were in attendance to further enhance their skills as setters for the many different classifications in a Paraclimbing competition setting.

Sian Spencer and Katie Kaminski (AVC) (Physios) both from the SCA Paraclimbing Sub Committee were in attendance to teach warming up, cooling down and climbing techniques to suit the climbers needs, while AUS Youth Team Coach Sophie Bell came along on Sunday to help assist and offer her skills. Australian Paraclimbing Team member, Russell Harrison and Adaptive Climbing Victoria members, Sarah, Minty and Julie came along to both days and would all agree it was a fantastic weekend filled with learning all about competition format, warm ups and cool downs, technique to aid their adaptive needs but most importantly they had a fantastic time supporting each other, laughing and together how we can achieve amazing things.

Thank you to Nick and North Walls Indoor Climbing, the staff and SCA for making the event as great as it was.

Can’t wait till the next one and thankyou to everyone who made it happen!
