Sport Climbing Victoria represents the Victorian chapter of Sport Climbing Australia. With many years experience between us our board members aim to develop and foster climbing within Victoria.
As part of the ‘Change our Game Workforce Development Program’ funding we received earlier this year we are pleased to announce the Women & Working in Climbing – Public Forum. The output of this will allow us to create a strategic document focusing on supporting female climbing coaches and to better understand current challenges and opportunities within Victoria. This document will ensure that we consider the needs of women and support them to develop and grow into coaching roles as well as senior leadership positions in our sport.
On Sunday 18 November we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a new board was elected. There was a terrific turn out to run through the year and celebrate the SCV Awards.
Sunday 18 November marked the inaugural SCV awards where we recognised those individuals who dedicated themselves to climbing throughout 2018. Many aspects of climbing were incorporated from Ascent of the Year right through to Climber of the Year.
We received a massive 44 nominations for individuals, groups and companies which were then considered by the SCV Board who determined the overall winners.
In a historic event that saw Sport Climbing enter the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 as an official sport, Victoria was lucky to be represented by Ned Middlehurst who qualified for the Australian Olympic Team last year at the Oceania Championships.
