Who We Are

Sport Climbing Victoria is run by an elected Board of Directors:

President – Philip Goebel

Philip is the current president of Sport Climbing Victoria. He is originally from Canada where he started climbing over 15 years ago. Having started climbing in Canadian Rockies he has been exposed to all disciplines of climbing. He has over 8 years of experience in coaching and setting roles at various gyms. Philip has post-graduate training in physiotherapy and is excited about further raising the profile and standards of climbing in Australia.

 Vice-President – Roisin Briscoe

Roisin has been climbing for over 15 years.  Roisin’s climbing passion started in the outdoors where she learnt to trad and sport climb and later developed into a competition fiend, competing in any comp she could get her hands on.  Roisin currently works in the sporting industry and hopes to bring this knowledge to Sport Climbing Victoria.

Secretary – Denise Wootten

Denise started climbing in her mid 20’s and has been hooked ever since. She enjoys both outdoors and competition climbing where she has competed at a state and national level for the last 5 years.

Denise has now turned her attention to volunteering at competitions where she plays a large part in the running of these events.

Denise is a scientific researcher and uses those skills to research possible grant funding for our Victorian members.

Treasurer – Ally Driessen

Ally has been appointed Treasurer for 2018, previously to this Ally has been an ordinary committee member.

A climber and outdoor lover since her early teens, Ally worked at the first climbing gym in Victoria, spent time in the outdoor retail industry, travelled Australia exploring our beautiful country and in more recent years built her skills in events and project management. She is an energetic member of our climbing community and is committed to ensuring that children and young people who participate in SCV activities have a safe and happy experience.

Yvette loves the growth of SCV over the years and is proud of our achievements and future ventures to come.  Having attended many local, national and international events over the years as a supporter, parent and Australian Team Manager, Yvette understands the need for our athletes to have recognition and support, starting at a state level.
Yvette is looking forward to making further development in 2018 for Victoria’s members.

 Katie Kaminsky

Katie is a physiotherapist working in sports (with a focus on climbing) and orthopaedic trauma rehabilitation. She has been a climber for 8 years and participates in all disciplines. She is currently undertaking research in injury prevention in rock climbing.

Ellen White-Mackenzie

Ellen has  been interested in climbing since she first
climbed as a 14-year-old. Taking her young children climbing stemmed an obsession for her entire family.

Ellen has been involved with SCV since 2015. Ellen’s main interest areas are youth development and supporting other under represented groups within our climbing community.

Hearing from the community that a state youth team was needed Ellen initiated Youth Competition Climbing Victoria (YCCV), which has been very successful. Ellen has also been involved in formulating the SCV child safety policy and continues to develop further policies for SCV.  If you see Ellen around and want to discuss anything SCV and/or sport climbing related, please feel free to come and chat.
