Women and Working in Climbing – Public Forum

As part of the ‘Change our Game Workforce Development Program’ funding we received earlier this year we are pleased to announce the Women & Working in Climbing – Public Forum. The output of this will allow us to create a strategic document focusing on supporting female climbing coaches and to better understand current challenges and opportunities within Victoria. This document will ensure that we consider the needs of women and support them to develop and grow into coaching roles as well as senior leadership positions in our sport.

To help achieve this, Sport Climbing Victoria (SCV) has been successful in securing Ellie Howard, an experienced female coach from the Austrian national climbing team to travel to Melbourne for the first week of December. The forum will also be joined by Dr Bridie O’Donnell from the office of Women in Sport and Recreation.

Howard is visiting climbing gyms around the state and interviewing climbing coaches and facility managers to understand our current coaching capabilities before making recommendations in the strategic document.

To get the best possible outcome we need your input. We invite you to attend this public forum and inform us of the challenges you face when developing your career in climbing as a woman. It’s important to note that this event is by women for women and includes non-normative gender identities and we welcome all individuals who identify as such.
